There should be an equal offer for high quality day-care for children across all German states – however binding nationwide standards for child care are still missing. Employees urgently need to be offered better working conditions to counter the shortage of qualified personnel in this sector.

A comprehensive study of the sector, looking across all institutions offering child care, was able to look at the needs of employees and identify possible entry points for support from trade unions. Decision making and negotiation processes could be highlighted and possible alliances identified.

One of the basic needs of trade unions in their work is the development, management and analysis of large-scale data sets linked to various business sectors. In this case, large data sets from various sources were automatically compiled, analysed and merged.
